🎻 Happy New Year!We start back on Zoom for NEFS 2025 Block 1 tomorrow (Weds 15th Jan) and bookings are open now! Stewart Hardy Music and Grace Smith Music will be teaching on Zoom, in video tutorials, and in person at our Saturday workshop. We are also revising a wonderful video tutorial from Kevin Lees - Music - see below for details 😊This block, we will be taking a closer look at 3/2 Hornpipe and related tunes. Grace will be providing video tuition on Woodstock Bower, a fabulous 3/2 hornpipe with echoes of both the village green and the courtly dances which she picked up from the wonderful English folk band, Leveret. Stewart's video tuition looks at Jack Lintel’s Jig which, despite its name, is another belting 3/2 hornpipe from the Northumbrian manuscript of William Vickers and which is hauntingly reminiscent of the Jacobite song, Come Ye Awa’ frae France. The revision video is provided by Kevin Lees. His tuition on the slängpolska, Polska från Småland, was very well received last year and the form has many similarities to the 3/2 hornpipe. We are reintroducing the video and will bring it into our Live Tune repertoire. Grace is also bringing a wonderful slip jig to the Live Tune repertoire. Andrew Carr's has been around at least since the 18th Century and is popular in all the traditions of these islands. Consequently, there are a wide variety of versions and the one Grace has chosen is particular suited to the fiddle. We will support all this fabulous repertoire with some well chosen exercises for our Wednesday evening technique sessions on Zoom. 🎻 ...
