2022 Block 1 – Saturday Workshop
This full-day workshop on Saturday 5th February will contain four different teaching sessions containing the in-depth, high-quality fiddle tuition you have come to expect from Stewart and Melissa. There will be three mixed-ability workshops and the chance to join in with a tutor-guided session.

To get you started, the following five tunes will be played, and from there on, participants can start tunes, or request tunes, from the repertoire

10.00 am – 5.00 pm
Wylam Methodist Church, Chapel Lane, Wylam NE41 8AA
Please arrive from 9.45 am for a 10.00 am start.
- 10:00 – 11:15 : Welcome and Workshop 1
- 11:15 – 11:45 : Morning break
- 11:45 – 13:00 : Workshop 2
- 13:00 – 14:00 : Lunch
- 14:00 – 15:15 : Workshop 3
- 15:15 – 15:45 : Afternoon break
- 15:45 – 17:00 : Session
You will need to bring all of your own equipment, including music stands if you wish to use one.
Lunch is not included, so please bring a packed lunch, or there is a tea shop and Spar a couple of minutes walk away. There will be a one hour break for lunch.
Tea and coffee will be provided during the morning and afternoon breaks.
Travel
There is a small car park at the Methodist Church, or please park with consideration in the surrounding residential streets. Wylam Station is well connected by train (about 30 mins from Newcastle Central Station or 20 mins from Hexham Station) and is 10-15 mins walk away, or catch the X84 bus from Eldon Square (35 mins via West Road, or 52 mins from Hexham). If you would like a lift from the station, please ask and we will ask around.
COVID-Secure Guidelines
We will run the workshop under our COVID-Secure Guidelines. If restrictions mean that we are not able to run the workshop safely, we will cancel the day and refund your payment.
- Do not travel to the venue if you are required to isolate for COVID-19 or if you show any symptoms of COVID-19. Please carefully follow all the guidelines on isolation if you have been exposed.
- Please take a lateral flow test on the day of the workshop before travelling, and only come if it is negative.
- Wear a mask when entering the building and at all times when not seated. The removal of masks whilst playing may be possible, but will be govered by any restrictions in place at the time. Masks must be put on again before leaving your seat.
- Wash or sanitise hands on entering the building.
- Maintain a safe distance from other people and respect their personal space.
- No sharing of equipment, so please bring everything you need (including music stands).
- Bring an extra layer of clothing in case ventilation leaves the room slightly chilly.
We will:
- Space the chairs out, from each other and from the leaders. Please do not move chairs without checking first.
- Clean the touch points in the room before the workshop.
- Provide as much ventilation as possible in the room.
- Provide masks (in case you have forgotten one) and hand-sanitiser at the door.
By attending an in-person event organised by NEFS, you agree to follow all the COVID-secure Workshop Guidelines, and any further reasonable requests made by the venue, the Tutors or Directors to keep the group safe and all attendees feeling as comfortable as possible.
