Melissa will look at different approaches taken to the the tunes in the Scottish and Irish traditions. \nLevel 3: The Amazing Mr Carolan – 2020 is the 350th anniversary of the birth of the great blind Irish harper and composer\, Turlough O’Carolan. What better way to kick off the year than by learning three terrific tunes from this musical giant whose melodies pervade all the traditions of these islands.

DESCRIPTION:To mark the end of the tenth block of classes since the start of NEFS we have decided to hold a social event\, with music and refreshments. It will be held in the Lounge Room at Gosforth Civic Theatre on Wednesday 10th July. \nThe music will be a session\, with some Big Tunes (for which the notation will be available in advance) and a few spots from tutors and students. We are asking for contributions to a shared snack table (finger foods please) for the break\, and drinks will be available to buy from the bar. \nThis is a free event for current\, past and potential future students of NEFS.
