Welcome to the information page for our first small steps back into NEFS in-person workshops.

These will each be a relaxed 2-hour evening workshop, focusing on session material. There will be a technique section based on pattern recognition, a session tune new to NEFS will be taught (one of the popular tunes it is often presumed you will already know!) and the chance to play in a session with other people, carefully guided by Stewart, Melissa and Ali.

Thursday 23rd September and Thursday 14th October
7.00 – 9.00 pm
Westfield School, Gosforth, Newcastle NE3 4HS

Any new materials for the Thursday evening workshops will be added here.

You also get access to the NEFS Live Teaching repertoire, which has gradually been developing with tunes previously taught in NEFS workshops and in Live Teaching Zoom calls. All notation and audio files are provided, and you also have access to video recordings of the Live Calls in which the tunes were taught or revised, should you wish to go through any in more detail. Please do not feel under any obligation to learn them all, but if you’d like to have a listen, look at the notation, or watch the call recordings on YouTube you can using the links on the page:

Covid-Secure Guidelines

We will run the workshop under our Covid-Secure Guidelines.

  • Do not travel to the venue if you show any symptoms of Covid-19, if you have been in close contact with anyone who has symptoms, if NHS Test & Trace have contacted you and asked you to self-isolate, or if you have returned from abroad and been asked to self-isolate.
  • If possible, take a lateral flow test on the day of the workshop.
  • Wear a mask when entering the building and at all times when not seated. Masks may be removed during the playing, but must be put on again before leaving your seat.
  • Wash or sanitise hands on entering the building.
  • Maintain a safe distance from other people and respect their personal space.
  • No sharing of equipment, so please bring everything you need (including music stands).
  • Bring an extra layer of clothing in case ventilation leaves the room slightly chilly.

We will:

  • Space the chairs out, from each other and from the leaders. Please do not move chairs without checking first.
  • Clean the touch points in the room before the workshop.
  • Provide as much ventilation as possible in the room.
  • Provide masks (in case you have forgotten one) and hand-sanitiser at the door.

By attending an in-person event organised by NEFS, you agree to follow all the Covid-secure Workshop Guidelines, and any further reasonable requests made by the venue, the Tutors or Directors to keep the group safe and all attendees feeling as comfortable as possible.
