Virtual Winter Workout Events

Welcome to the first NEFS Virtual Winter Workout!

Thank you for signing up to our Virtual Winter Workout. We are looking forward to an exciting day on Zoom filled with a fiddle practice session, live workshops, informal chats with the tutors, and an evening session with guest spots from the tutors. There are plenty of breaks, and you can dip in and out of the workshops as you please. All workshops will be recorded and available on YouTube after the event.

Please find below the Zoom call details for the weekend, and the timetable. When the advance materials for the workshops are available they will be linked from the Timetable below.

A seated warm-up designed for fiddle players by a physiotherapist, to get us ready for a day’s playing.

Get warmed up for the workshops and learn techniques for effective practice.

11:00 – 12:15Live Workshop 1 – with Kevin
Uhrovec 193
A quirky, dark and wonderful traditional Polska from an old Slovakian collection. The tune is in the gritty key of G minor and has a slightly classical sound. Great for loosening up the left hand and learning a tune unknown on the folk circuit.

Our tutors will present short tips or demonstrations as an introduction to particular techniques.

A lovely little traditional jig, which will make a great addition to your repertoire.

Stewart will interview our Guest Tutors, Kevin and Grace.

17:30 – 18:00Big Tune – Live Workshop – with Stewart
Our Big Tune will be Rob Say’s wonderfully catchy creation, The Fallowfield March. This is being embraced by a number of Northumbrian sessions – it’s an earworm, it’s wonderfully memorable and it is very accessible.
Go through the Big Tune in person with Stewart. Full and detailed teaching is available in the form of a Video Tutorial.

20:00 – 22:00VWW Session with Tutor Spots
Join in and play-along with each of our tutors in turn as they lead some of their favourite session tunes (notation provided in advance).
Then sit back and listen as they perform a few tunes for us to enjoy.

VWW Big Tune

Learn our Big Tune! Use the video tutorial along with the notation to learn the Big Tune in advance. There will also be the chance to attend a live workshop at 17:30 to recap, and we will play it together during the Session.
